Científicos registran por primera vez en Cuba una microalga vinculada con toxinas de la ciguatera

Scientists have identified the microalgae Gambierdiscus australes in Cuban waters for the first time. The discovery was made through samples collected along the coastline of Havana, marking a new record for the presence of this organism in the region.

In addition to the findings in Havana, the research confirmed the presence of the microalgae in other areas of the Caribbean. The study also identified a total of six different species within the Gambierdiscus genus, which are known to be linked to the production of ciguatera toxins.
