The Canadian province is battling 190 active blazes and around 1,800 residents had been evacuated from sparsely populated communities. Flames crept, and then sprinted, toward unsuspecting residents who fled remote parts of northwestern Ontario. Now they want to know why officials weren’t prepared.
Recent rain has slowed some blazes, but officials say sustained rainfall is needed as residents monitor smoke, interrupted supplies and approaching fires.
