Barriers are being placed to trap debris in the Yaque del Norte River

The Council of Support for Jarabacoa (Coaja), an organization comprising local business owners and merchants, has launched a pilot preservation plan for the Yaque del Norte river. The initiative involves the installation of bio-barriers designed to capture and contain solid waste, with a particular focus on plastics, in order to address contamination.

This environmental effort marks a proactive step by the private sector in Jarabacoa to mitigate pollution affecting the Yaque del Norte. By deploying physical barriers to intercept debris, the project seeks to improve the ecological health of the waterway and manage the ongoing issue of solid waste accumulation.
