Barriers are being placed to trap debris in the Yaque del Norte River

The Council for the Support of Jarabacoa (Coaja), a group comprised of local business owners and merchants, has launched a pilot program to preserve the Yaque del Norte River. The initiative involves the installation of bio-barriers designed to capture solid waste, with a specific focus on mitigating plastic pollution in the waterway.

This project serves as an environmental intervention aimed at addressing the accumulation of debris within the river. By deploying these barriers, the organization seeks to contain contaminants and improve the ecological health of the river system through this initial testing phase.
