Colombia requests suspension of tariffs after earthquake

Following a devastating earthquake this week, Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella formally requested a temporary suspension of United States tariffs on Colombian products. The request was made on Saturday to U.S. President Donald Trump, whom the Colombian leader described as an ally.

The appeal comes in the wake of the natural disaster as Colombia faces the task of recovery. Prior to this request, tariffs imposed by the United States on Colombian goods had seen changes late in the period leading up to the event.
