Under which Penal Code will he be tried if he committed a crime before?

As of Monday, August 3, the Dominican Republic has officially implemented a new Penal Code that introduces numerous new criminal classifications and mandates stricter sentencing guidelines. The legislative update represents a significant shift in the nation's legal framework regarding how various offenses are categorized and punished.

Despite the activation of the new code, the legal system will continue to apply the previous framework to all criminal acts committed prior to the entry into force of the new legislation. This ensures that cases involving past offenses remain subject to the laws that were in effect at the time the alleged crimes occurred.
