Controversy over the Porto half-marathon: 10 participants end up in hospital

Ten participants of the Porto half-marathon were hospitalized following the race, which took place in temperatures hovering around 30 degrees Celsius. The extreme weather conditions forced medical teams to intervene in multiple situations throughout the event.

Event organizers attributed the medical emergencies to heat strokes. Furthermore, organizers stated that many of the participants may not have been adequately prepared for the challenging environmental conditions.
