Cornyn urges DHS to hear Texans’ concerns about Big Bend border barrier construction

Republican U.S. Senator John Cornyn has formally requested that the Department of Homeland Security allow local leaders, landowners, and park advocates to provide input regarding the construction of a border wall within Texas national and state parks. In a letter released Tuesday, Cornyn expressed concern that the ongoing project could negatively impact the region's natural beauty, wildlife, and indigenous historical sites.

Meanwhile, construction equipment has arrived at Big Bend National Park to begin work on the barrier. Local residents have voiced opposition to the project, citing environmental concerns and criticizing the administration's assurances that the wall will not encompass the entirety of the park. Critics characterize the associated road construction as an environmental catastrophe.
