Former cricket captains appeal to Pakistan over Khan’s health care

A group of 21 former international cricket captains, including India's Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, has formally appealed to the Pakistani government regarding the health and medical care of former Prime Minister and cricket captain Imran Khan. The signatories are urging authorities to provide Khan with the medical assessment and treatment previously mandated by the country’s apex court. This marks the second time this year that the group has addressed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the matter.

Imran Khan has been incarcerated since 2023. He and his wife are currently serving a 17-year sentence on corruption charges, all of which they continue to deny. The intervention by the international cricket figures highlights ongoing concerns regarding the conditions of his detention and his access to healthcare.
