The National Government confirmed this Thursday, June 27, 2024, Cristian Espinosa Cañizares as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ecuador to the United States. The career diplomat will replace Ivonne Baki in the position. Cristian Espinoza was appointed as Ecuador’s new ambassador to the United States.
Espinosa has worked for Ecuador’s foreign service since 1987, as a specialist in multilateralism, international trade and trade negotiations. Throughout his career he has been permanent representative of Ecuador to the United Nations, in New York. In addition, he has held, in the Foreign Ministry, the positions of Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Director of Interinstitutional Relations and head of the Economic Section.
He was also metropolitan director of International Relations in the Municipality of Quito. In Ecuador, the Ambassador was president of the Council of Chambers and Production Associations of Ecuador and executive director of the Ecuadorian American Chamber of Commerce. He was general director of the Andean Community and vice minister of Foreign Trade and Integration, in charge of Ecuador’s trade negotiations.
Espinoza holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and has a bachelor’s and master’s degree (BA/MA) in Philosophy and Economics from Boston University. The US diplomat pledged to continue supporting Ecuador on security issues. The meeting between President Daniel Noboa and Ambassador Brown took place on June 26. The new ambassador of the United States, Arthur Brown, presented his credentials to President Daniel Noboa on June 26.
