A front desk employee at a Hialeah apartment building called police after checking surveillance cameras and seeing a woman repeatedly strike a small dog, according to police.Graphic video obtained by Local 10 News on Friday captures a pet owner repeatedly slapping a small dog inside an elevator. The same woman is also seen walking toward the Metro Parc apartment building when the dog slips out of its collar. She then jumps onto the animal and picks it up by its hind legs, holding it upside down as the dog appears to be in pain and tries to free itself.Hialeah police identified the woman as 42-year-old Miriam Yilian De La Rosa. She appeared before a Miami-Dade County judge Friday on three counts of animal cruelty after the building’s front desk employee called 911 to report the alleged abuse she saw on surveillance video.De La Rosa was also captured on surveillance video in the building’s lobby on a separate occasion, allegedly grabbing the same dog by the neck and striking it aggressively more than a half-dozen times.Residents said they were shocked that someone could abuse their own pets, which many consider family.“Those who mistreat animals, small or large.

That’s abuse,” one resident said.Jail records show De La Rosa was being held on a $12,500 bond at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, as of Thursday evening. All three of her dogs have been taken by Animal Services for a medical evaluation and for their safety, officials say. .l10-neighborhood, .l10-neighborhood * { box-sizing: border-box; } .l10-neighborhood{ --blue-dark:#0d2c73; --blue:#1f57c4; --blue-light:#3370e6; --gray-bg:#f2f3f5; --gray-border:#d6d8dc; --text-dark:#1a1a1a; --white:#ffffff; font-family:system-ui,-apple-system,"Segoe UI",Roboto,Arial,sans-serif; max-width:860px; margin:1.5rem auto; border-radius:10px; overflow:hidden; border:1px solid var(--gray-border); background:var(--gray-bg); box-shadow:0 4px 14px rgba(0,0,0,.12); text-align:center; } .l10-head{ background:linear-gradient(90deg,var(--blue-dark),var(--blue)); color:var(--white); padding:12px 16px; font-weight:800; text-transform:uppercase; font-size:1rem; letter-spacing:.3px; display:flex; justify-content:center; align-items:center; gap:8px; } .l10-body{ max-width:740px; margin:0 auto; padding:0 16px 18px; } .l10-sub{ margin:12px 0 10px; font-size:.95rem; color:var(--text-dark); font-weight:500; text-align:center; } .l…

South Florida authorities said they are looking for a “dangerous” suspect who once stole a police cruiser and then carjacked a woman after he skipped out on the last day of his trial on Friday. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is looking for Armando Lopez, 53, of Key Largo, after he failed to show for his trial on several felonies at the Plantation Key courthouse in Islamorada. He was convicted. In December 2024, deputies said Lopez, then 52, brutally beat a woman in a domestic violence incident, fought with an MCSO sergeant trying to arrest him, then stole his cruiser and drove away.Deputies said he then stopped a woman and carjacked her SUV, later wrecking it on U.S. 1 after a high-speed chase.Video obtained by Local 10 News showed the wild chain of events.MCSO spokesperson Adam Linhardt said state and federal authorities have joined the search.“Lopez should be considered dangerous and the public is asked to report any tips regarding his location by calling 911 or the Sheriff’s Office at 305-289-2351,” Linhardt said in a news release on Friday.
