Danube River’s water levels drop so low that sunken Nazi warships are emerging

A severe drought has caused the water levels of the Danube River to drop significantly, exposing a fleet of sunken Nazi warships near Prahovo in eastern Serbia. The vessels were part of Nazi Germany's Black Sea fleet and were deliberately scuttled in 1944 by German forces retreating from the advancing Soviet army.

The emergence of the wrecks has disrupted river navigation and highlights the severe environmental and economic impacts of the ongoing drought across Europe. The sunken ships, many of which still contain explosives and ammunition, pose a lingering hazard to modern shipping along the continent's second-longest river.
