Health officials confirm case of dengue fever locally-acquired in Broward County

Miami Beach police rushed to the scene of a crash just outside of a busy condo. Video shows a dark-colored SUV that crashed into the valet ramp at Oceanside Plaza Condominium.The building is located at 5555 Collins Ave. on Mid-Beach.Following the crash, the SUV could be seen wedged in the concrete of the ramp and hanging off the side.

According to authorities, a senior couple was inside the SUV at the time of the crash, but no major injuries were reported. Officials in Broward County have confirmed a case of dengue fever. According to the Florida Department of Health in Broward County, the case of dengue was locally-acquired. The DOH in Broward County, along with Broward County Mosquito Control, said they, “are coordinating surveillance, prevention, and control efforts.”Broward County officials said they have sprayed the area where the case was located, but they wouldn’t disclose a location.“Dengue can present as a flu-like illness with severe muscle aches and joint pain, fever, and sometimes a rash,” the FDOH states.

“Usually, there are no respiratory symptoms. Symptoms of dengue will appear within 14 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito. A deadly crash shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Pompano Beach on Monday.According to Florida Highway Patrol dispatch data, the crash happened at around 4:40 p.m. between Copans and Sample roads.It wasn’t immediately clear how many people were killed and whether there were any additional injuries.Local 10 News has contacted FHP and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue seeking additional information.
