Death row inmate Christa Pike survives Tennessee’s first lethal execution attempt of a woman in 200 years

The US Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that Tennessee could proceed with Pike's execution by lethal injection for murdering a schoolmate as an 18-year-old three decades ago. The event marked the state of Tennessee's first attempt to put a woman to death in two centuries. Tennessee officials were unable to put Christa Gail Pike to death Wednesday for a 1995 murder after administering two doses of a lethal drug.
