Decrees: Abinader shakes up the government in the middle of his last term

Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader announced a sweeping reorganization of his government on Sunday, August 16, coinciding with Restoration Day and occurring two years before the conclusion of his second and final constitutional term. The executive decrees implemented a broad government shake-up involving official transfers, new appointments, and voluntary departures of key figures who had served alongside the administration.

A central component of the restructuring is the resignation of Roberto Álvarez as Minister of Foreign Affairs (Mirex). President Abinader accepted Álvarez's resignation and officially appointed Víctor -Ito- Bisonó as the new chancellor through decree 554-26, released by the presidency on Sunday afternoon.
