NewzKINGSTON, Jamaica — A St Catherine businessman who reportedly fled the country following a 2024 shooting incident has been charged after being deported to Jamaica more than two years later. Charged is 38-year-old Chavis Peart, otherwise called “Geezy” or “Baller” of Jumbling Place, Portmore, St Catherine. He faces charges of three counts of wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition and using a firearm to commit a felony.
The charges stem from an incident along Leith Avenue, Kingston 13, on Thursday, May 9, 2024. According to police reports, about 6:35 pm, Peart was visiting the mother of his child when an argument reportedly developed between him and a relative. The police said the dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Peart allegedly pulled a firearm and opened fire.
Three people, including the relative involved in the altercation, were shot and injured. The victims were taken to hospital, where they were treated and later made reports to the police. An investigation was launched and authorities later confirmed that Peart had left the country in an effort to evade law enforcement.
Following more than two years on the run, Peart was apprehended through a joint effort involving the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and international law-enforcement agencies. He was subsequently deported to Jamaica on Thursday, August 27, 2026. Peart was formally charged on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
