Various social organizations, trade unions, and citizen collectives in Costa Rica have called for a public demonstration known as the "Plantones por la Justicia Democrática." The protest is scheduled for Thursday, August 6, and is being organized to defend democracy and public institutions in the country.

In a separate development involving a different Central American nation, various international organizations formally denounced the expansion of mining concessions before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (CIDH). These groups warned that the advancement of mining in Nicaragua poses severe consequences for indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples.
