JCE suspends article of regulation that prohibited publication of polls

The Junta Central Electoral (JCE) in the Dominican Republic has provisionally suspended a regulation that prohibited the publication or dissemination of electoral polls outside of designated pre-campaign and campaign periods. This administrative action follows ongoing judicial challenges regarding the legality of the restriction.

The suspension has prompted internal debate within the JCE. Two of the five members of the electoral body have questioned the initial implementation of the ban, arguing that the Pleno lacked the authority to enforce such a restriction, thereby highlighting a lack of consensus regarding the regulation of electoral polling.
