LONDON: PRIME Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has met investors and representatives of various institutions at Chatham House, a leading international affairs research and analysis institute in London, United Kingdom, where he outlined Tanzania’s current national priorities. Chatham House is a research and strategic advisory institution that brings together experts, academics and researchers to conduct in-depth studies on complex social, economic, political, technological and security issues. The discussions brought together representatives of international financial institutions, commercial banks, multinational organisations, diplomatic missions, research institutions, development policy organisations and government agencies.
Dr Nchemba, who is in the United Kingdom on a five-day working visit, used the platform to convey greetings from President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan and reaffirm the government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the UK, international partners and investors. ALSO READ: During the meeting, the Prime Minister outlined Tanzania’s ambitions under Vision 2050, explaining the government’s economic transformation priorities. He also engaged international stakeholders on investment opportunities, infrastructure financing, regional cooperation and international partnerships.
Dr Nchemba told the participants that Tanzania was determined to transform its economic structure by reducing reliance on exporting raw agricultural products and minerals and shifting towards domestic processing, manufacturing and value addition. He emphasised that economic growth must be inclusive, create jobs and ensure that the benefits of development reach a larger proportion of the population. “Tanzania has moved from planning to implementing Vision 2050, and is now seeking partners capable of delivering tangible economic results,” he said.
