Madang Schools implement measures to cope with El Nino conditions

Prolonged drought conditions driven by the El Niño phenomenon have forced schools in Kundiawa Urban and Waiye Local Level Governments (LLGs) to implement early closures. Students are facing extreme heat, dehydration, and illness as a direct result of the severe weather.

To mitigate the harsh conditions, the majority of affected schools are now ending their classes at 2:00 PM. Meanwhile, educational institutions located in the hardest-hit grassland areas are taking more drastic measures, shutting down operations as early as 12:00 PM.
