Earth’s largest ocean is shrinking and could create supercontinent Amasia

The Pacific Ocean, Earth's largest ocean, is gradually shrinking as tectonic plates converge. Subduction zones around the ocean's edges are consuming the ocean floor faster than new material is formed.

Scientists estimate that this ongoing geological process could cause the Pacific Ocean to completely close within 200 to 300 million years, ultimately resulting in the formation of a new supercontinent known as Amasia.
