Veteran Edin Džeko decides to stay another year for Schalke’s Bundesliga return

Veteran Bosnian forward Edin Džeko has signed a one-year contract extension with German club Schalke, keeping him with the team through the 2026/27 campaign. The decision secures his future with the Gelsenkirchen outfit following their recent promotion back to the Bundesliga.

Džeko initially joined Schalke in January on a short-term, six-month deal that lasted through the conclusion of the 2025/26 season. After helping the club achieve promotion from Germany's second division, his status with the team had been uncertain prior to the agreement on the new contract.

Reflecting on his time with the club, Džeko highlighted the experience of playing with the squad and receiving support from the fans since his arrival during the winter transfer window.
