Edmonton’s summer of rain has Folk Fest trucking in sand, Fringe hiring meteorologist

Edmonton is experiencing its wettest summer on record, severely impacting the city's prominent outdoor cultural events. To combat the persistent heavy rainfall, organizers of the Edmonton Folk Music Festival are taking proactive measures by trucking in tonnes of sand and actively pumping out accumulated water.

In addition to the Folk Fest's physical mitigation efforts, other major local cultural gatherings are adapting to the inclement weather. Notably, the Edmonton Fringe Theatre Festival has taken the step of hiring a dedicated meteorologist to help navigate the challenging and unpredictable conditions.
