Egypt, Pakistan discuss efforts to reduce regional tensions

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a telephone conversation on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, with US Special Envoy for the Middle Eas Steve Witkoff to discuss regional developments and efforts to reduce tensions. The two officials exchanged assessments of the latest developments and stressed the importance of preventing further escalation and avoiding a broader regional conflict that could threaten security and stability and increase the humanitarian and economic impact of the ongoing crisis. Abdelatty stressed the need to uphold the principles of good neighborliness, respect international law and preserve the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of all states.

He also called for intensifying diplomatic efforts and pursuing political solutions to restore stability and reduce regional tensions. The minister condemned all attacks targeting the Gulf states and Jordan, reaffirming Egypt’s firm rejection of any actions that undermine the sovereignty, security or stability of Arab countries. The two ministers exchanged views on the rapidly changing situation in the region, stressing the need to reduce tensions, halt military operations and pursue political and diplomatic solutions to regional crises. They also agreed to maintain close coordination and consultations in support of diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring stability and preventing further escalation.The conversation also addressed the Palestinian issue. Abdelatty expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and condemned continued Israeli actions in the West Bank, Gaza and occupied East Jerusalem, warning that they undermine prospects for peace and the two-state solution.

Additionally, Abdelatty stressed the importance of implementing all phases of the US peace plan for Gaza to help sustain the ceasefire, ensure the full delivery of humanitarian aid and create the conditions needed to move forward with the next stages of the process.
