The Arctic is losing an area of ice almost the size of Spain every decade, according to Copernicus.

According to data from Copernicus regarding the period between 1979 and 2025, the Arctic has lost approximately 490,000 square kilometers of sea ice per decade, a surface area nearly equivalent to the size of Spain.

In addition to the extensive loss of sea ice, the report highlights that roughly 60 percent of coastal infrastructure in the region has become vulnerable to ongoing erosion.
