The Government declares the Pazo de Meirás, Franco's summer residence, a Place of Memory

The Spanish government has officially declared the Pazo de Meirás, located in Sada, A Coruña, as a Lugar de Memoria Democrática (Site of Democratic Memory). The formal declaration was published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado (BOE) on Friday, August 14. Built in the late 19th century, the property served as the summer residence for dictator Francisco Franco.

The designation recognizes the site as a significant location for understanding the contemporary history of Galicia. By categorizing the building under the framework of democratic memory, the government underscores its importance in the broader historical narrative of the region.
