Congress is considering creating two new provinces

The Dominican Republic's National Congress is currently reviewing two legislative proposals aimed at restructuring the country's provincial divisions. The initiatives seek to establish two new provinces, which would alter the existing administrative map of the nation.

One proposal advocates for the elevation of the Las Matas de Farfán municipality into a new province to be named Santa Lucía. A second, separate initiative proposes the creation of a province to be named Matías Ramón Mella.
