Congress is considering creating two new provinces

The Dominican Republic's National Congress is currently reviewing two legislative proposals aimed at restructuring the country's provincial divisions. The initiatives seek to establish two new provinces by elevating existing administrative areas to provincial status.

One proposal advocates for the conversion of the Las Matas de Farfán municipality into the new province of Santa Lucía. A second, separate initiative proposes the creation of a province to be named Matías Ramón Mella.
