Congress is considering creating two new provinces

The Dominican Republic's National Congress is currently reviewing two legislative proposals aimed at establishing new provinces within the country. The initiatives seek to reorganize existing administrative territories by elevating specific municipalities to provincial status.

One proposal advocates for the conversion of the Las Matas de Farfán municipality into the new province of Santa Lucía. A second, separate initiative proposes the creation of a province to be named Matías Ramón Mella.
