Congress is considering creating two new provinces

The National Congress of the Dominican Republic is currently reviewing two separate legislative initiatives aimed at creating two new provinces within the country. The proposals seek to alter the existing territorial division by establishing new administrative regions.

Specifically, one of the legislative measures proposes elevating the municipality of Las Matas de Farfán to provincial status under the name Santa Lucía. Meanwhile, the second initiative seeks the creation of a separate jurisdiction to be named the Matías Ramón Mella province.
