Congress is considering creating two new provinces

The National Congress of the Dominican Republic is currently reviewing two separate legislative initiatives aimed at the creation of new provinces within the country. The proposals, which have been officially deposited in Congress, seek to redraw the current territorial organization by establishing two new administrative divisions.

Specifically, one of the legislative proposals outlines the conversion of the municipality of Las Matas de Farfán into a new jurisdiction to be named Santa Lucía Province. Meanwhile, the second initiative proposes the creation of another distinct territory designated as Matías Ramón Mella Province.
