Romania successfully detonates a charge to increase water flow to the Cernavoda nuclear power plant

The Romanian Ministry of Defense conducted a controlled underwater explosion on Monday to remove a rock formation obstructing water flow in the Danube. The operation was executed to increase the water supply reaching the Cernavoda power plant amid severe drought conditions in the country.

The intervention serves as a preventative measure to ensure the facility maintains sufficient cooling capacity. By redirecting the river's flow, authorities aim to avoid the potential necessity of disconnecting the plant's second nuclear reactor.
