The fraud scheme with which García Luna stole millions of dollars from the public treasury after being Secretary of Security

The Government of Mexico has successfully recovered 5.8 million dollars in assets linked to a corruption and public treasury fraud scheme involving Genaro García Luna, who served as Secretary of Public Security from 2006 to 2012 and was convicted of drug trafficking in the United States in 2023.

The legal follow-up and details of the fraud scheme were publicly disclosed by Omar Reyes Colmenares, director of the Financial Intelligence Unit, during the morning press conference held by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
