The acknowledgment was reportedly contained in a response letter sent to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez regarding the tense border situation.

Simultaneously, the broader European Union is addressing the migration challenge amid internal divisions as interior ministers of the twenty-seven member states prepare for a virtual meeting. The discussions encompass differing regional strategies, including calls for solidarity with Spain alongside parallel proposals such as Italy's plan to pursue external processing arrangements modeled after Italy's approach with Albania.
