The Institute of Mayors and Social Services (Imserso) has implemented a policy allowing retired citizens to travel accompanied by their pets. The measure went into effect in October 2025.

This policy change addresses a long-standing demand from the elderly community. Previously, travel restrictions forced many older adults to leave their pets behind.
