Puente acusa a los gobiernos autonómicos del PP de no ejercer sus competencias contra los incendios

Spanish Transport Minister Óscar Puente has accused regional governments led by the People's Party (PP) of failing to exercise their responsibilities in preventing forest fires, specifically citing a lack of mountain clearing and insufficient firefighting personnel. The criticism comes amid a severe wildfire situation affecting countries including Spain and France.

In response, the PP has offered its cooperation to the central government while demanding greater prior coordination. PP representative Cuca Gamarra insisted on the implementation of fifty specific anti-fire measures and dismissed a proposed State pact promoted by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez as insufficient for addressing the crisis.

Meanwhile, the European Commission warned that ongoing wildfires have surpassed current firefighting capabilities across the region. Brussels has urged authorities to implement proactive land management policies well in advance to address the growing threat of fires that are impossible to extinguish with standard methods.
