The Port of Haina has been identified as the primary entry point for illicit firearms in the Dominican Republic, accounting for 80 percent of all weapons seized within the country. As the nation’s most active port, the facility manages the largest volume and diversity of commercial goods and raw materials entering the country.

While the port serves as a critical hub for national trade, its high level of operational activity has also made it a focal point for the trafficking of contraband. Authorities have highlighted this concentration of seizures as a significant challenge in managing the flow of illegal material through the country's main maritime gateway.
