Macron, after the Senate, with its PP majority, rejected the Treaty of Friendship with France: "We will achieve it"

The Spanish Senate, where the conservative Popular Party (PP) holds an absolute majority, voted to reject the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Spain and France on Tuesday. The parliamentary defeat occurred despite the Constitutional Court issuing a unanimous ruling the previous week stating that the text does not contradict the Spanish Constitution, thereby preventing the completion of the agreement's parliamentary ratification.

The rejection coincided directly with the official state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Spain. The timing of the Senate vote notably overlapped with events surrounding the visit, including a gala dinner hosted by the King and Queen at the Royal Palace in honor of the French president and his wife.
