Senator Juan José Matarí seeks support from Spain and the European Union to pressure Nicaragua

Spanish Senator Juan José Matarí has announced that the Spanish Senate's Ibero-American Affairs Commission will debate an initiative in late September aimed at applying pressure on the government of Nicaragua. The proposal seeks a formal condemnation of the administration led by Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.

In addition to condemning the Nicaraguan regime, the legislative initiative calls for the immediate release of political prisoners. Senator Matarí is actively seeking broad political support both within Spain and across the wider European Union to strengthen international pressure against the Nicaraguan authorities.
