Typhoon Surigae is gaining strength as it moves towards southwest Japan

Typhoon Surigae intensified on Sunday as it tracked toward the Okinawa prefecture in southwestern Japan. Authorities have issued warnings regarding the potential for heavy rainfall and violent sea conditions expected to impact the region in the coming days.

The storm's approach follows closely on the heels of Typhoon Dujuan, which struck the area approximately one week prior. Dujuan resulted in twelve fatalities, heightening concerns regarding the impact of the current weather system on the region.
