Guatemala's Fuego volcano increases its activity, forcing the first evacuations

Guatemalan authorities have initiated evacuations for communities surrounding the Volcán de Fuego following a significant increase in volcanic activity. The eruption, which began Monday night, has resulted in the discharge of lava and ash, prompting the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction to coordinate emergency responses in the affected southern region of the country.

The National Institute of Seismology, Vulcanology, Meteorology, and Hydrology (Insivumeh) has issued official alerts as the volcanic activity intensifies. Officials are currently managing the situation to ensure the safety of residents living near the base of the volcano.
