Elaine Mokhtefi, American Witness to Algeria’s Revolution, Dies at 98

Elaine Mokhtefi, an American activist and writer who became a prominent witness to Algeria’s struggle for independence, has died at the age of 98. Mokhtefi spent significant time in Algiers, where she served as a fixer for the Algerian government and navigated the complex political landscape of the post-revolutionary era.

During her time in Algeria, she developed close relationships with various international radicals and revolutionary figures. Notably, she played a key role in assisting the Black Panther Party in establishing an international base of operations within the country, highlighting her involvement in global political movements of the mid-20th century.
