Birds and fish affected by the El Niño phenomenon: high temperatures reduce their production and availability in the markets

The El Niño phenomenon is causing significant ecological and agricultural disruptions across Latin America, impacting animal populations, crop yields, and food availability. In Peru, rising sea temperatures linked to El Niño have negatively affected birds and fish, reducing production, limiting market availability, and driving up food prices.

Meanwhile, in El Salvador, irregular weather transitions between the dry and rainy seasons since the beginning of the year have severely disrupted agricultural planning. According to meteorologist and agronomist Danilo Ramírez, these conditions led to total crop losses of 100 percent in the eastern region and resulted in livestock mortality.
