WHO sees 'encouraging signs' in DR Congo Ebola response but says outbreak 'far from over'

The World Health Organization reported on Wednesday that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is showing encouraging signs of improvement, though officials emphasized that the epidemic remains far from over and is still spreading. Speaking in Geneva, WHO head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyes stated that authorities are beginning to gain ground in the fight against the disease.

As of September 11, the outbreak has resulted in more than 7,000 reported cases spread across seven provinces in the country. While the recent trends point toward positive developments in the response effort, international health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely given its ongoing reach and severity.
