Between faith and fear: Families evacuated due to the Fuego Volcano return to their homes in Guatemala

Guatemalan authorities have declared the end of the Volcán de Fuego eruption following a 50-hour period of intense volcanic activity. The event was characterized by the release of diverse volcanic products, including pyroclastic density currents and significant ash dispersion, which necessitated the temporary evacuation of local residents to emergency shelters.

Following the cessation of the eruption and the return of clear weather conditions, displaced families have begun leaving the shelters to return to their homes. The transition marks a shift from the immediate emergency response to the recovery phase for the communities situated near the volcano.
