Spain reaffirms its world leadership in organ donation and contributes 23% of EU donors

Spain has reaffirmed its position as the global leader in deceased organ donation, registering a rate of 53.2 deceased donors per million population in 2025. According to reports released in Madrid, the country accounted for 23 percent of all organ donors within the European Union and 5 percent of the global total.

This high contribution is notable given that Spain represents only 11 percent of the European Union's population. The milestone maintains the country's longstanding international leadership status in the sector of human organ donation and transplantation.
