Spain is approaching 50 million inhabitants thanks to immigration: Colombians, Venezuelans and Moroccans top the list of new residents

As of July 1, 2026, Spain's population reached a historical peak of 49,801,559 residents. According to the Estadística Continua de Población, the country experienced an increase of 104,178 people during the second quarter of the year, bringing the nation close to the 50 million inhabitant milestone.

This growth is primarily driven by immigration, with 10.2 million residents now living in Spain who were born outside the country. Among the new arrivals contributing to this demographic shift, individuals from Colombia, Venezuela, and Morocco represent the largest groups of new residents.
