We are losing the battle: half of Peruvians exposed to digital fraud fell into the trap in the last year

A recent study conducted in July 2026 by Experian and Edelman Intelligence reveals that digital fraud reached nearly three out of every four Peruvians over the past year. Among those who were targeted by scam attempts, 49% fell victim to the traps, prompting assessments that the country is losing the battle against digital fraud.

In a separate security development in Peru, the National Police arrested two suspects identified as aliases 'Bemba' and 'Barbie' in Cajamarca. The individuals are linked to the murder of community kitchen leader Betsy Mallma Sarmiento and were captured following an operation on the outskirts of the city after fleeing Lima.
