Europe must build own AI or risk getting cut off by US or China, says ECB’s Lagarde

European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde has warned that Europe must develop its own artificial intelligence technology and construct additional datacentres to avoid being cut off by the United States or China.

Speaking on the continent's technological strategy, the central bank chief highlighted that current dependency on foreign AI infrastructure poses significant strategic risks, potentially granting international trade partners unprecedented leverage in future negotiations.
