At the European Athletics Championships, Italian athlete Eloisa Coiro set a new national record in the women's 800-meter event during the heats by clocking a time of 1 minute and 57.56 seconds. With this performance, the 25-year-old Roman runner successfully secured her qualification for the semifinals.

This new national record follows previous shifting marks in Italian middle-distance running, coming shortly after Pernici had surpassed Fiasconaro's previous benchmark in July.
